MediaTek has unveiled a 5G test prototype with an M70 baseband for the first time
Recently held in Taiwan, "the 60th anniversary of integrated circuits IC60 special exhibition", MediaTek by the previous public out of their own 5G test prototype, equipped with MediaTek M70 base belt, the base belt based on TSMC 7 nanometer process to build, in the heat control has a good improvement.
It is reported that MediaTek has invested in 5G research and development for up to 5 years, is committed to the complex 5G technology into fingertip size wafers, in this exhibition to display 5G prototypes, for its introduction of the previous generation of wafers stage results.
MediaTek's 5G prototype is not a single device, but a multi-device portfolio of product systems, as the development of 5G technology involves a range of technology attacks from the launch end to the terminal.
According to previously announced information, the Helio M70 supports the new 5G NR air port, complies with the 3GPP Release 15 independent networking specification, has a high download rate of up to 5Gbps, and will supply 5G chips for smartphones in 2019.
MediaTek did not give details of the technical specifications of the prototype, but said that this time is the development of engineering testing used prototype, convenient for engineers to experience the feasibility of new 5G technology, correct possible communication errors, test whether the design circuit can achieve speed target values, so the phone back shell deliberately left two "skylights", is used to connect with the test platform.
MediaTek also pointed out that because 5G transmission speed is much faster than 4G, the circuit will produce a lot of heat when operating, so the prototype used multiple fans for cooling, but the final 5G commercial equipment will have MediaTek's unique low-power design, no fan required.
MediaTek said that over the past five years, thousands of people have been invested in 5G-related research and development, participate in 5G standard-setting and decision-making, has made a number of 5G core technology patents, and other chip design plants in parallel.
At the MWC 2018 conference in February this year, MediaTek also signed a memorandum of cooperation with Huawei, Nokia, China Mobile, NTT Docomo and many other partners to promote the commercialization of 5G by 2020.
Xie Qingjiang, vice chairman of MediaTeking, said that the next 5G will not only increase the speed of mobile Internet access by 10 times, but also have a breakthrough impact on technology in cloud computing, car networking and smart networking.
At present, various manufacturers have launched their own 5G baseband, including Qualcomm Dragon X50, Intel XMM 8060, Huawei Baron 5000, MediaTek Helio M70, Samsung Exynos Modem 5100, while 5G communications-based production machines will be officially launched in 2019.
